Twice in the next six weeks he was dispatched to the Capitol to head off the punitive legislation. As he had many times before in his career, Greenquist strongly defended the University of Wisconsin in the face of turmoil.

“Don’t interfere unnecessarily,” he warned lawmakers. “We have the very future of this state at stake.”
